The Centre offers both research and coursework programs in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Postgraduate research training occurs in a dynamic research environment at the Centre for MEGA Epidemiology, ensuring that research training opportunities are embedded in current research activity and are relevant to research career development. The Centre for MEGA Epidemiology staff includes researchers with ongoing research programs that can support projects suitable for research training for Higher Degree students.
The coursework programs cover essential theory and methods, and specialist theory and skills in specialist areas including genetic, molecular and infectious disease epidemiology. The methods subjects that comprise the coursework programs in our Epidemiology and Public Health degrees have been redesigned to provide a solid but flexible core for a new Master of Epidemiology, and the key epidemiology and analytic methods subjects for students enrolled in the MPH, DrPH and PhD (with coursework).
The Postgraduate Certificate in Biostatistics, Postgraduate Diploma in Biostatistics and Master of Biostatistics is an articulated program of awards that offer professional training in biostatistics to students from a wide range of backgrounds. The program is offered by distance delivery mode (part-time only) through the Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia (BCA).
Research degrees may also include a coursework component to develop basic research skills in epidemiologic and analytic methods. This option has been formalized through the introduction of a PhD with Coursework which provides a structured research skill development program offered through the School.
In addition to the full courses provided by the Centre, individual subjects can be taken through the Community Access Program and later credited to an award program. For further information please visit http://www.unimelb.edu.au/community/access/.
